Dayglow

DAYGLOW

The power of positivity was alive and well this Tuesday night at The Echo for a sold-out show with Dayglow and opener Faux Real.

Faux Real is an avant-garde cabaret sibling duo fronted by Virgile and Elliott Arndt.  Their act contains a supercharged sexual fluidity that ranges from unsettlingly erotic to madcap and hallucinatory.  Their songs are highly personal and deal with anxiety and angst, including “No Clue,” “Inside Of Me” and “Classic Man.”  Their choreography is an awkward seduction wherein the brothers, over the course of the set, gradually remove their tops and parade headlong into the crowd for their climactic finale “Kindred Spirit”.  Part Iggy Pop, part Magic Mike, part Scissor Sisters and Soft Cell, their warbling motorik synth and funk grooves make this band the perfect way to get things started.  Check out their latest single “Second Sweat.”.

FAUX REAL

Hailing from Austin, TX, Dayglow is a second coming of sorts.  The self-proclaimed “antidote for Dark Pop,” front-man Sloan Struble is a Gen-Z breath of fresh air and optimism in a world of moody synthwave and neo-classic rock.  Mixing elements of chillwave (à la Tame Impala, Mac DeMarco, Beach House, Grizzly Bear), yacht-rock (including their cover of Jackson Browne’s “Somebody’s Baby”), 80s pop (also including their cover of “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” by Tears For Fears), and an almost Paul Simon-esque arrangement, this quintet is a feel-good rocketship of a band.  Dayglow’s first album Fuzzybrain is a sincere look at heartbreak, joy, loss and freedom, including upbeat singles like “Can I Call You Tonight?,” “Nicknames” and “Hot Rod” along with slower heartbreakers like “Junior Varsity” and eponymous “Fuzzybrain.”  Struble wrote and produced the entire album himself, which only adds to the authenticity that attracted well over 9 million streams on Spotify after the album’s release this year.  If you need a little sunshine to dance to, stream the album here.
