All Time Low Crónica

ALL TIME LOW CRÓNICA

Creeper

Hey Charlie

Hey Charlie

Last Friday, the doors of Vistalegre Palace opened for the fans of All Time Low who have waited two years for the group to return to the capital. The night opened with grunge-pop group, Hey Charlie, an all-female trio from London. The group thanked the crowd for their lively energy and explained that it was their first tour. The highlight of the set was when members of All Time Low came dressed as the group with blond wigs and red skirts and sang with Hey Charlie. The fans cheered and danced along during the song. Coming also from England, Creeper, hit the stage next and brought even more energy into the room. Everyone sang a little louder and jumped a little higher with each song, ending with a sing along that had fans waving their phone lights in the air. All Time Low returned to the stage with Creeper, this time dressed in dark make-up as members of Creeper and began to play drinking games on stage.

Creeper

Finally, the time came when All Time Low took the stage. Each member of the group arrived with big smiles as their fans screamed for them. The band arrived to promote their new album, Last Young Renegade, and began the night with the title song off the album. For more than an hour and a half, the group played new songs for the crowd and also visited hits from throughout their career. Whether you were a new fan or one for almost a decade, everyone had a night to enjoy together, and that's the atmosphere that the group creates in their shows. Each song was received with loud cheers and the whole room sings and dances with along. All Time Low has always been known for their catchy songs and with the showcasing of the new songs this Friday, it does not seem that that will change for the group. We leave you with the gallery of our night with All Time Low:

ALEX AIONO: gallery + review

21 year-old heartthrob Alex Aiono lit up the Mod Club on a cool Sunday evening. With the night starting early, the venue filled with young followers of the singer. Alex Aiono has grown a lofty following from gracing YouTube with various covers of hits along with releasing original tracks in anticipation of his debut record due in September.

Singer, AJA9

Opening the night was teen singer AJA9, with a whimsical presence she held her known through covers including “Million Reasons” by Lady Gaga and her latest original track “Right Kinda Love”.

As the venue floor quickly filled, the growing anticipation to the night’s headliner grew. With the dimming of the lights Alex set foot on the stage, as he stepped in the spotlights clad in a blue and white Maple Leafs jerseys the crowd roared and roared. Alex promptly began covering the latest hits he’s known to take his own spin on including “I Spy”, “Isn’t She Lovely”, “No Problem”, and many of Toronto’s staple rapper Drake’s hits including “Child’s Play”, Passionfruit and more. It clearly did not matter the track whether new or old, the crowd commanded singing along with the Arizona native.

Alex made reference to the show being his first solo headlining tour in North America, previous trips to the city and his affinity for his musical journey. He also made sure to share a supportive message for those seeking to achieve their dreams, as far as they may seem which contributed to the light-heartedness and enjoyable vibe to the show.

As Alex played a nearly hour long show, he sang his popular tracks including “Hot2Touch”, as the night rolled on the crowd grew with energy tenfold. Alex ended the night on a high note singing his latest original tracks “Question” and “Work the Middle”. As a young artist, it was clear he commanded the crowd with ease and showed his popularity growing from online platforms. Alex closed the night with his popular mash up cover of “One Dance” and “Hasta El Amanecer”. Check out his music videos for “Question”, “Work The Middle” out now, his debut record is slated for a fall release on Interscope Records.

REVIEW

R5 are no longer the kids on the block. This spring, the quintet released New Addictions, the 5-track EP features the leading single “If”. The song is an ode to their evolvement and growth, ultimately, the band’s sweet sounding pop rock tunes still reign. On Wednesday, June 28th the band made their way to the Phoenix Concert Theatre, with a crowd ranging from pre-teens to their parents, to the young crowd who grew up alongside the band, there was no shortage of excitement as the band returned to the city.

Hailey Knox

The night was opened by two supporting acts with Hailey Knox warming up the crowd and one-half of Alexander Jean, Mark Ballas, fronting as a solo act due to his partner being ill.

R5 last played Toronto in the fall of 2014 thus, making their visit a timely and longed for one. The band played tracks off the most recent release to songs from Louder including the tracks and a personal favourite “I Want U Bad”, “(I Can't) Forget About You” and others. From the opening tracks, the band highlighted their youthful energy and presence as the lead singer; Ross Lynch interacted and engaged amusingly with the crowd. It was clear Ross was made for the stage and showcased his ease with commanding the crowd.

Riker Lynch

After a slew of tracks, the band took a break and Ross Lynch appeared at the soundboard area mid-venue where he performed an acoustic medley including “Repeating Days”, “Waiting on the World to Change” & “Pass Me By”, Lynch also made reference to Canada’s Prime Minister with a shout-out.

After the break, the full-band instrumentals returned with a rendition of “What Do I Have to Do?”/“Valerie”, the band continued into their set with a chosen mix of singles from their discography with the band playing through “Smile” and closing the night with the final track on their 2015 release Sometime Last Night.

Overall, it was clear the band has matured over the years since their formation from their lively instrumentals to their stage presence, as well Ross Lynch has since shed his “Disney Channel” persona to a more genuine, rock artistry presence that appears naturally to him. R5 is composed of the Lynch siblings Riker, Rydel, Rocky, and Ross with friend Ellington Ratliff on the drums.

THE NEARLY DEADS: single "My Evil Ways"

With an EP (Revenge of The Nearly Deads!) shortly on the way, The Nearly Deads have released a hit single titled “My Evil Ways." This power anthem sounds very much like a mix of strong frontwomen Hayley Williams (Paramore) and Jenna McDougall (Tonight Alive), with a hint of old inspirations of heavier rock. Lead, Theresa Jeane, has impeccable, powerhouse vocals that show in this song about staying true to yourself, no matter how odd or crazy your own ways me be. Members Steven Tobi (lead guitar), Kevin Koelsch (bass), Javier Garza Jr. (rhythm guitar), and Josh Perrone (drums) have used their instrumental backing to really set a premise for this song; the music fits perfectly with the lyrics. To me, what The Nearly Deads have produced shows a lot of excitement for the new EP as well as showing off a song that will be an incredible hit at all live shows. To all fans of The Nearly Deads (or as they call themselves, zombienation) I’m sure you already have this song on loop, but I know we can agree that we both infinitely look forward to hearing the rest of this new EP launching May 26th.

Good Charlotte: Review

GOOD CHARLOTTE: a concert review

On the second day of Canadian Music Week pop-punk legends Good Charlotte graced the Danforth Music Hall, with this being my second night at the music hall. Arriving promptly at 8:00PM I had a goal in mind – to inch myself through the crowd to the front where a friend was situated front-centre. I managed to squeeze about 5 rows behind the barricade, I told myself “good enough”.

The show presented by Journeys featured Californian bands Movements and Palaye Royale as opening acts earlier in the evening. At 8:00 PM one of my favourite Canadian bands, Silverstein, ripped through their set which included giving shout outs to the Maple Leafs, Blue Jays, and the 905ers. Lead singer, Shane Told proclaimed the night as a hometown show. The band was formed in 2000 and have continued to manage a solid following throughout the years. As Silverstein played two of my favourites, “Smile in Your Sleep” and “My Heroine” off Discovering the Waterfront I couldn’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia, as these paved my entrance to the pop-punk and hardcore scene.

As the music hall continued to fill, the anticipation was steadily rising. As 9:00 PM came around and a few moments later, the quintet from Waldorf, Maryland made their anticipated entrance and return to Toronto. The band opened with the aptly named “The Anthem." From the opening notes, it was clear Toronto had a love for Good Charlotte and as Benji & Joel Madden reminisced over shows played in the city, it was clear – Good Charlotte had a love for Toronto too.

Good Charlotte presented a discography spanning over 20 years, with the brothers interacting and asking the crowd whether old or new fans - one thing was clear, a connection was made. At one point, Joel stated the probability of the group and the fans being friends in an alternate world. The brothers kept an impeccable pace of genuine interaction and engagement with the crowd, during a conversation before “Hold On," Benji mentioned and encouraged the strength in picking yourself up even in the lowest of moments, to give when nothing’s left to give and look forward. Good Charlotte are perfect examples of authenticity, even in the presence of fame they continue to be rooted in their humble beginnings.

The final 5 tracks on their setlist acted as an extended encore with some of their most notable tracks closing out the night including “I Just Want To Live” and “Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous.” As the night inched closer to ending the crowd hung onto each moment with the band, with the night progressing - the band and crowd relayed each other’s enthusiasm back and forth without a hitch. With 20 years in the books, the band displayed a rigorous veteran presence and for that Toronto was rocking on this April 19th night
